ROCKFORD, Mich. — An emergency medical flight for a 10-year-old Rockford boy has been funded thanks to a donation page set up in his name.

The GoFundMe pagefor Chandyn Thompson surpassed its goal of raising $44,000 to secure funding to pay for a special type of plane that will bring him from Tampa, Florida to DeVos Children’s Hospital here in West Michigan.

Chandyn suffered a medical emergency while vacationing with his family in Florida. His principal at Valley View Elementary, Bob Siegel, told FOX 17 that Chandyn was fishing with his family when he said he wasn’t feeling well. Chandyn vomited and had a headache before becoming unresponsive. His brain was bleeding due to a previously unknown medical condition: arterioveinous malformation (AVM).

A special type of plane was needed to bring Chandyn back to Michigan to heal. After learning insurance wouldn’t cover it, his uncle took to GoFundMe Tuesday. The community rallied behind the cause, raising more than $45,000 in two days.
