NEWAYGO, Mich. – A Newaygo County man has recovered after catching the Zika virus while visiting Honduras this winter.

A health officer with the county tells FOX 17 that the man visited Honduras in late January and began experiencing symptoms after returning home to Newaygo County.  Doctors ran tests on him and sent the results to the Centers for Disease Control which confirmed that he had Zika in early March.

The man is described only as a “young adult” has fully recovered and no one else appears to have been affected by the disease.

Zika is transmitted primarily through mosquito bites and has been prevalent in Latin American countries.
