SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) — Police say a 20-year-old man who tried to escape police by crawling under a moving train in Michigan had one of his legs cut off.

WSGW-AM reports state troopers on Monday night were looking for robbery suspects in Saginaw when they saw a driver make an improper turn. Police tried to stop the Saginaw man, but he abandoned the vehicle he was driving and ran until he was blocked by the train.

The station says he tried to go underneath and was dragged for about 1,000 feet before the train could stop.

According to police, one leg was cut off and doctors who treated the man at a hospital say the other would need to be amputated.

Police say the man had two misdemeanor traffic warrants for his arrest.
