FRUITPORT, Mich. — Funeral arrangements have been finalized for a Western Michigan University student killed in a hit-and-run last week.

Nicolas Heil, 21, of Fruitport will be laid to rest on Tuesday morning at The Lee Chapel, 6291 South Harvey St., in Norton Shores, according to his obituary.

Heil was killed last Wednesday after investigators say he was hit by a vehicle while jogging alongside KL Avenue near the Copper Beech Townhomes in Kalamazoo County.

Relatives say Heil was living the in the Kalamazoo area after securing an internship for the summer.  He was a junior at Western Michigan University, studying engineering.

“I just hope he knows home much he was loved,” Dan Heil, Nic’s father, told FOX 17 last week.  “I just wish he could’ve seen the rest of his life, I would give anything to trade my life for his.”

Investigators said the driver of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was found and arrested after a relative of the driver called authorities a few hours after the deadly crash.

Visitation for Heil is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. on Monday and 10 a.m. on Tuesday  at The Lee Chapel in Norton Shores. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Lee Chapel, according to his obituary.
