Local teen wins national video competition

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — A West Michigan teen beat out more than 600 students to receive a big honor all in an effort to raise awareness and keep others safe.

Jonathan Hultst, of Ottawa County, won the Adcroft Club of Detroit Award at the Detroit Auto Dealers Association Courageous Persuaders video competition.

Over 650 students from 242 high schools submitted work to highlight the dangers of texting while driving, drinking and driving, and underage drinking.

“Through the real-world filmmaking experiences at CTC my filmmaking skills have improved,” Hulst said. “Preparing for competitions I’m eligible for through CTC has given me invaluable skills including how to meet deadlines and think about my target audience.”

Huist is a media communication student and a home schooled junior.His video title was titled “Good Friend.”

The Ottawa Area Intermediate School District said Morgan Johnston a Allendale High School senior and Sam Vandermolen, a Holland Christian High School senior, placed in the top 60.
