WEST MICHIGAN — It’s called Mars Close Approach (to Earth). On average, the planet Mars is about 158 million miles away. Now, it’s more like 46.7 million miles. The difference is due to elliptical orbits both the Earth and Mars have.

Monday night Mars will be visible to the naked eye just north of the constellation  Scorpius. It will also be visible the next several days, but it’s closer, bigger, and brighter tonight. If you miss this viewing, Mars will appear bigger and brighter in July 2018.

Mars appears highest in the evening sky tonight at midnight. Make sure to look south about 35 degrees off the horizon. You can click here for more information. Enjoy!
