LOWELL, Mich. – The mayor of Lowell will be facing a recall election this November.

Lowell City Clerk Susan Ullery has issued a Public Notice stating a special recall election will be on the November 8 ballot in Lowell.  The recall was spurred by a PAC called ForwardLowellto replace Mayor and Councilman Jeff Altoft.

Altoft is in his second term in office.  ForwardLowell lists its main issues on their website as moving the city’s mayoral election to coincide with the General Election cycle and preserving the Lowell Showboat.  A press release from ForwardLowell highlights Altoft voting ‘yes’ to hire of a special legal counsel in January.

The recall will have a candidate to replace Altoft.  Lowell Light &Power Board chairman Greg Canfield has submitted his candidacy application, according to ForwardLowell.  The deadline to submit a candidacy on the ballot was Thursday, June 2.
