INGRAM, Texas (AP) — Six years after their puppy disappeared from their home in the Texas Hill Country, a family now living in Michigan has been reunited with the dog.

Kathleen Appling says she received a call from Kerr County Animal Services that a dog found near a store in Hunt had a microchip showing he was named Leo and was linked to her phone number. Appling remembered the dog as belonging to her daughter’s family. They moved two years ago to Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Her daughter, Allison Hinton, says Leo disappeared six years ago. Hinton’s family assumed Leo ran away or died.

Hinton’s husband, Bill, tells the Kerrville Daily Times he wished the microchip had a GPS to determine where Leo’s been since 2010. Leo was reunited with his old family Friday.
