GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Police say that officers equipped with NARCAN made their first life save over the holiday weekend.

NARCAN is the brand name for the drug NALOXONE, which can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.  The department says that over the past two weeks, 120 officers have gone through a two-hour training provided by the Grand Rapids Red Project to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer NARCAN to victims of an overdose.  The NARCAN is administered nasally and does not use needles.

Police that the save happened over the holiday weekend when they came across a person suffering an apparent heroin overdose.
