PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Plainfield Township is proposing a new parks and recreation millage on the ballot August 2.

See millage language here.

The proposal would add about 30 miles of public trails that would connect to the White Pine Trail as well as parks and business districts. The added trails could make some roads like Jupiter Avenue safer.

Plainfield Township Manager Cameron Van Wyngarden says that when the master plan for the parks and recreation department was redone in 2015, a survey found residents wanted more safe trails.

The millage is for .5 mil. If it passes, homeowner with a home worth $200,000 would pay about $50 per year more in taxes. Van Wyngarden says the township hopes to finance the trails equally with the additional revenue and state and federal grants.

Construction would begin in 2018.
