NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. — 33 puppies were rescued from terrible conditions at an Alabama shelter and brought to the Lake Haven Rescue  to find homes.

"These puppies actually came out of a county shelter that was closed due to horrendous conditions, and when they close the county shelter in the South that's pretty bad," said Cheryle McCloud with Lake Haven Rescue.

The puppies were living with no air conditioning, had little food and no veterinarian service, among other things.  McCloud says she's already received more than 20 applications from people wanting to adopt.

Lake  Haven Rescue is looking for families with strong vet recommendations, people with fenced yards, steady employment and a good history with their pets.

You can find the adoption application on their website.
