MUSKEGON, Mich. – The Sappi paper mill has been an industrial eyesore in Muskegon for years. But there are plans in the works that will bring new life to the demolished mill site.

Neighbors and business owners in the area tell FOX 17 news redevelopment of that area is a great idea.

On Wednesday, a group hosting a special announcement on the project will unveil their plans, and the project will run into the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Many business owners near the old mill say anything will be better than what is there now.

“It’s been like this since I’ve been here, so I don’t know any different.” Said Michael Morse, owner of Frosty Cove. “Definitely not the prettiest site.”

The paper mill closed in 2009 and demolition destroyed most of it in 2013.

“I’ll be glad when it’s gone. It’s real ugly to look at and see that.” Said Sara Packer, manager at Habs good eats and treats. “The debris can get really scary when it’s windy. Everything about it, the dust, the metal hanging off the building.”

The big plan will be revealed during a press conference from the investment group, ‘Pure Muskegon’.
