LANSING, Mich. — August is the month with the most fatal crashes and the highest number of fatalities in Kent County. In 2015, there were 14 fatal crashes and 14 people died. In 2014, the deadliest month was July.
The statistics come from Michigan Traffic Crash Facts, posted online by the Michigan State Police.
By comparison, Ottawa County’s top months for road deaths were May and June with just 4 each month in 2015.
August didn’t have the most crashes in Kent County. That status goes to January, with 2,149 crashes. No surprise there, considering winter driving conditions. But the second most crash filled month was October, followed by December.
The stats isolate Friday and Sunday as the days of the week with the most fatal crashes during the year.
