FREELAND, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State police say troopers are increasing patrols in the Saginaw area in August in an effort to cut down on distracted driving.
State police say they will be watching for inattentive drivers and those not wearing seat belts during August as motorists hit the road for end of summer vacations and back to school shopping. Police say the increased patrols are part of an effort to keep motorists safe and prevent senseless crashes.
State police say the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has cited driver inattention as the leading factor in most crashes and near crashes. Police say any non-driving activities that cause a driver to look away from the road should always be avoided.
