HOLLAND, Mich. — An 11-year-old boy was rescued from the water near the North pier at Holland State Park Saturday after wave conditions became too much for him to swim back to shore.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, one of their deputies was on a call in the area when he was advised two children, who were later identified as brothers, were in the water and needed help getting out.

The deputy threw one of the brothers a line, helping the boy onto the Ottawa County marine boat. The boy was treated at the scene by paramedics and released to his parents.

Officials say the other brother was able to get out of the water using the rocks near the pier.
