Mom, baby ejected in serious crash on US-131

WYOMING, Mich. — A mother and her baby were ejected from their vehicle during a serious crash that shut down northbound US-131 on Saturday.

A 22-year-old mother was seriously injured after she and her 1-year-old infant were thrown from a vehicle in the a crash along US-131 near 44th Street on Saturday afternoon.

In all, six people were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. Police said the driver stopped suddenly to avoid hitting other vehicles in a construction zone and rolled the vehicle.

The four others injured were taken to Butterworth Hospital but their injures were not considered to be severe, according to a press release issued by Wyoming Police.

Police said the mother ejected was seated in the backseat of the vehicle with her baby on her lap at the time of the crash. Neither were wearing a seatbelt.

That mother was hospitalized in serious condition with a fractured pelvis and head injury, police said.

Previous reports from police indicated eight people had been injured. Authorities later revised that number.
