BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Police are searching for a man who robbed a southwest-side bank at midday Saturday.

At 11:40 a.m. Saturday, the Battle Creek Police Department responded to reports of a bank robbery at the Fifth Third Bank at 630 Capital Ave. SW. Multiple officers immediately filled the area but could not find the suspect. They canvassed the area on foot and spoke to residents of the area.

A canine track also was unsuccessful.

Police described the lone suspect as a white male standing between 5-feet-9 and 5-feet-11 inches tall with a skinny build, a day’s growth of facial hair, wearing a dark colored, lightweight, two-toned polyester hoodie, dark pants and dark shoes.

Later, they sent out two surveillance pictures of the robber (see the accompanying Gallery).

Police said the suspect fled the bank on foot in an unknown direction.

A weapon was implied but was not seen.

The robbery has been turned over to Battle Creek police detectives and the FBI.

Anybody with any information about the incident is being asked to call Silent Observer or 9-1-1 with tips.
