NEWBERRY, Mich. — An inmate spotted scaling the fence at the Newberry Correctional Facility was captured about a mile away Tuesday morning.
Alize Montague, 19, serving a 10-year sentence out of Monroe County, was seen climbing over the fence around 2 a.m. Corrections officers pursued Montague and were joined by Michigan State Police and the corrections department’s emergency response team.
By 4 a.m., Montague was back in custody.
The Newberry Correctional Facility is a Level 1 facility in the state’s prison system, which means the unit houses inmates who are easier to manage. Level 5 facilities have the maximum level of security.
