PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. --  Officials say a bank robbery suspect crashed his vehicle during a police chase Thursday in Kent County.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. at Post Drive NE  between Jupiter Avenue and US-131, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Department.    The suspect crossed the center line and struck two other vehicles before his car stopped in the area.

Deputies pulled the suspect from the crashed vehicle after it caught on fire, according to the sheriff's department.  He was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Another person in one of the other vehicles was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The Independent Bank, 5 3rd St., was robbed at about 4:05 p.m. Thursday, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Department Dispatch.

The sheriff's department says money stolen during the robbery and a note that the suspect allegedly used during the robbery were recovered from his vehicle.
