KENT COUNTY, Mich. – Home owners dealing with downed trees will be available to use extended hours at yard waste centers.

The City of Grand Rapids yard waste site on Butterworth SW will have special Sunday hours this week, August 21 from 9:00am – 6:00pm for residents to bring tree branches, limbs and brush.

Residents of Wyoming and the southern part of Grand Rapids will be clearing up from severe storms and a tornado that went through the area on Saturday afternoon.

Grand Rapids resident, Harold Dewitt said he was grateful the Grand Rapids site was open Sunday “My neighbor has this big 100  year-old maple and whenever there’s a storm the debris falls into our yard.”

Some homes suffered a lot of damage, other’s in the area were pretty lucky.

“It was windy, a lot of rain, we took the kids downstairs and were watching TV.  We never lost power, though some other places did around us.  Other that that, that was about it.” said Chad Bocian.

Grandville residents can bring natural yard waste to the city’s Department of Public Works facility at 4095 White St.  According to release, residents are asked to enter through the rear gate at Oakes St.
