WEST MICHIGAN-  A busy weekend of severe weather with at least 4 confirmed tornadoes has led to a calmer, more comfortable start to the week.  That will be short lived, unfortunately, as another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible by midweek.

Surface Analysis Wind Particles

As our fair weather maker, the high pressure center, moves off to the east…winds return to the south and southwest.  This will increase our humidity ahead of our next storm system that arrives Wednesday.

3DayForecast_Full_Tomorrow (1)

There is a possibility for a light shower in the late morning hours, but the majority of the rain arrives in the afternoon and evening hours.  Obviously after what happened during the weekend, we’re on high alert about some of the potential threats from this storm.

Advanced Planning22

Here’s what you can expect from this storm Wednesday into Thursday: heavy rain.  That’s probably the main threat.  Normally an inch of rain is something we can handle pretty well in West Michigan, but the problem is the ground is already heavily saturated.  Many of the streams and rivers are nearing capacity and could use a few days break.  You’ll also notice straightline winds as a possibility.  I would expect the high end of gusts to top out at 60 mph, as opposed to the 100 mph winds we saw last weekend.  Most wind gusts should be around 40 mph, but it still bears watching.

Garry Rainfall Totals (3)

Rainfall totals could exceed an inch in many locations, with some areas over 2 inches of rain yet again.  Localized flooding will be something to watch in the next couple of days.
