Teen to be charged as an adult in McKenna Hilton murder

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A 16-year-old boy will be charged as an adult for the murder of an 18-year-old girl.

Kent County Assistant Prosecutor Chris Becker tells FOX 17 that a warrant for Open Murder has been authorized for Savon Schmus in the death of McKenna Hilton.

Hilton, 18, was found dead along a trail in Grand Rapids Township on Thursday, August 18.  She was a recent graduate of East Kentwood High School and an employee at Craig’s Cruisers.

Becker tells FOX 17 that Schmus and Hilton were half-siblings.

Schmus is expected to be arraigned in 61st District Court on Thursday.
