PORT SHELDON TWP., Mich. – The driver who allegedly hit a motorcyclist in Ottawa County and fled the scene has turned himself in.

The Ottawa County Sheriff says the crash happened along US-31 south of Stanton in Port Sheldon Township Friday night.  The department received a tip on Tuesday from a friend of the suspect.  The suspect, a 48-year-old West Olive resident, turned himself in to deputies.

Investigators say the suspect was allegedly driving a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta and didn’t yield while a making a “Michigan turn” from US-31 southbound to US-31 northbound at Stanton.  He pulled in front of a motorcycle driven by Richard Medacco, 36.  Medacco suffered leg and back injuries.

Investigators say that the driver of the Jetta has admitted to them that they were drinking alcohol before the crash.  The Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case for charges.
