Man charged after hat, watch reported missing from casket

MUNDY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A neighborhood advocate in Flint has been charged after items reportedly were taken from a casket.

The Flint Journal reports Wednesday that Arthur Wenzlaff faces larceny and disrupting a funeral charges. Wenzlaff was arraigned Monday.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton says a Detroit Pistons hat, a watch and two bowling rings allegedly were missing from the casket at a Mundy Township funeral home following a memorial service.

The Flint Journal says Wenzlaff served as the director of school and community relations at a public charter school in Flint. He also was chair of a business and resident association on Flint’s south side.

The newspaper says Wenzlaff declined to comment on the charges.

A Sept. 1 probable cause conference is scheduled. Wenzlaff is free on bond.
