GRAND RAPIDS, Mich– The Grand Rapids Police Department is commemorating the life of a Grand Rapids Patrolman who was killed in the line of duty 100 years ago Thursday.
Grand Rapids Patrolman Millard F. Davis was directing traffic at the intersection of Cherry St. and Diamond Ave. SE on August 24, 1916, when he was struck by a vehicle.
Davis was taken to Butterworth Hospital, where he died the next day. Officer Davis was 54 years old at the time of his death and left behind his wife.
