Bicyclist, 66, dies after hit-and-run crash

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The Kent County Sheriff’s Department says that a bicyclist struck in a hit-and-run crash has died.

Charles Driggers, 66, was hit while riding a bike on Cannonsburg Road near Chauncey Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Aug. 17.

Benjamin Vanderploeg, 49, of Grand Rapids, is charged in connection with the crash.  Officials say the charges against him could be enhanced pending the results of an autopsy.

Driggers’ family told FOX 17 that his father was training for an Iron Man competition at the time of the crash.

  • NO PC FOR ME

    Hit and runs seem to be on the rise. my take is people are frightened that even when its a true accident they are going to get into deep trouble.
    Things have gotten to the point there is no such thing as an accident, someone always has to be blamed or responsible, even in a true accident.

    The law has no room for real justice anymore, just rules and penalties.
