MSP to hold seminar to recruit more diverse employees

LANSING, Mich.– Michigan State Police are holding a recruiting seminar in hopes of attracting more diverse candidates.

The free seminar, being held at the MSP Training Academy in Lansing,  begins at 11a.m. on Saturday, September 17.  In attendance will be female and male troopers, command officers and supervisors to discuss the life of a trooper and the career opportunities available.

The MSP is hoping to gain a more diverse group of employees, and wants to get the message out that it is important to them to have a diverse workforce that reflects the communities they work in.

Additionally, MSP wants to show interested candidates the many different opportunities they can have. Presenters at the seminar will be from all different sections including: Canine Unit, Emergency Support Team, Aviation Section, Bomb Squad, Forensic Science Division, Gaming Section and Special Investigation Section.

In order to be eligible for employment, candidates must have a good moral character, be a United States citizen,  be a Michigan resident, be at least 21-years-old, have a high school diploma or G.E.D., a good driving record, good credit history and no felony convictions.
