HOLLAND, Mich. — As the search continues to recover the body of a teen who is presumed drowned, a fundraising event in Holland was held Sunday to help raise money for his family.

Family and friends are fighting to come to terms with what happened after Christopher Mimis and Vincent Green were swept away by high waves last Wednesday. Green's body was recoveredlast week.

On Sunday, the Holland community came together for a car wash that raised more than $3,000 dollars for the families of Mimis and Green.

“I just want to thank the community for showing great support,” said Theenda Yarbrough, a volunteer at the car wash. “Churches have been here, the mayor just left. We’ve had people come by and park their cars and say they just want to help volunteer.”

Chris Mimis' mother attended the car wash too.

“He was a very, very good child,” said Valerie Milner, Mimis’ mom. “If Chris didn’t do anything else, he respected others, respected his elders.”

She hopes the search for her son will continue and that his body is found soon so she can get the closure she needs.

“It’s not going to be closure for me until they find his body,” she said.

Search efforts continue on the shore of Holland state park for Chris Mimis. The water search was called off Saturday.
