SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. – A motorcyclist with a clear disregard for law enforcement, and other drivers’ safety, leading police on a wild high speed chase.

It began just north of mile marker 17 on I-196, when police began getting reports of a rider going the wrong way on the interstate.

Police say at one point, the rider was speeding the wrong way alone I-196, taunting police and encouraging them to chase him.

A South Haven officer spotted the motorcyclist on the shoulder of the road. He ordered the man to get off the bike, but instead of complying, he sped away.

The officer pursued the bike for about 10 miles, just around the Berrien County line, before abandoning the chase.

It wasn’t long after that, when the rider was spotted again, this time by Berrien County deputies, and again the rider allegedly enticed the officers to chase him before speeding off.

The motorcyclist headed into the city of Benton Harbor before the pursuit was called off again for safety concerns.

Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect. He’s described as a black male, wearing black clothes, driving a silver sports motorcycle. He also had a camera mounted on his helmet.

If you know anything about him, you’re encouraged to contact the South Haven Police Department.
