GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A Grand Rapids shopping center will be "demalled" starting this month.

Renovations begin this month at Breton Village on the southeast side of Grand Rapids, according to CWD Real Estate Investment.  The project includes a new building for Talbots, Rx Optical and other stores and restaurants on the west side of the building and tearing down other buildings, including the former Great Lakes Shipping Company and other properties across the street on Burton.

The mall will also have its roof and second floor removed and outdoor green spaces, seating areas and water features installed throughout the new center.

CWD is working with Rowland Design, a design and architecture firm from Indianapolis, as the architect for the project.  Triangle Construction will begin staging during the week of September 12 to begin building the new building adjacent to the parking lot on the west side of the mall.  That building is expected to be complete by March of 2017. Taking apart the mall will begin early in 2017.

CWD also plans on new restaurant and retail tenants.  The Rite Aid that has been in the mall will be relocating to a new building on the corner of Burton and Breton.
