MUSKEGON, Mich. -- People gathered at Hackley Park Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil to honor a slain Muskegon mother of three.

Barbie Dailey was found dead Sunday evening after police were called to the 1400 block of Jiroch Street.  Officials say her ex-boyfriend, Josh Salyers, has admitted to killing her.

He was charged Tuesday with her murder.

Friends, family and people who never knew Barbie came out Thursday to remember her.   Those who attended the vigil wanted to focus on the kind person she was, saying she was a great mom and a friend with a fun, quirky, outspoken personality.

They lit candles, sang songs and released lanterns to honor her.   Barbie's family  members said every candle lit Thursday night represents a victim of domestic violence.

To honor her life, they want to help put a stop to it.

"We should've known the early signs and we didn't at all, and we need to be aware of it and so does everybody else," Barbie's cousin Jennifer Brege said.  "If we can help save somebody else's life by the stuff that we're doing, we're making a difference in her name."
