WEST MICHIGAN — Although the autumnal equinox is still a dozen days away, it will feel more like fall as we head through the weekend. As of this early morning writing, it still feels like summer with temperatures in the middle to upper 60s (our average low is in the middle 50s at this time of year). A cold front is coming, however. This front is already making its way through the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin as of this writing:

This front will move through the area during the early afternoon hours. Our forecast model suggests a few showers will develop along this front, and a few showers could even wrap around the associated low pressure system for some post-frontal showers as well. Here’s a look at Future Track HD during the mid-afternoon hours:

In addition, winds will increase out of the west behind this cold front. This means conditions could get dangerous for boating and swimming on Lake Michigan, with rip currents and high surf:

Winds will diminish overnight and Sunday, however, giving us a beautiful second half of the weekend as the rain threat will come to and end as well. The cool, dry weather pattern will continue for the remainder of the extended forecast, with one exception. There is the possibility of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday night as another cold front pushes through.
