It was in April of 1999 when Amy Nyberg found out she was pregnant with triplets, but at just 18 weeks her water broke on the first baby.

That baby would not survive. Doctors told Amy that the other two boys had less than a 40% chance of surviving, and if they did survive, they had a very high chance of having physical and cognitive disabilities.

Amy was put on bed rest, and about five weeks later the other two babies were born 16 weeks early.  Lucas and Jacob both weighing in under 2 pounds.

The outlook still wasn't good, and for several weeks it was hour-by-hour as to whether the boys would survive.

The boys spent 120 days in the neonatal intensive care unit at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.

The boys had a long road of them and a lot of work, but they recently celebrated their 17th birthday.
