HOWARD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 44-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly threatening Cass County Sheriff’s Department deputies with a knife.

According to a release from the sheriff’s department, officials were called to a home on Little Street at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday for a domestic violence incident.  The caller reported that the man was allegedly “brandishing a machete and acting ‘crazy,'” according to a release.

When officers arrived at the home a woman told them that her live-in boyfriend was intoxicated and angry and said he had been “yelling and screaming,” according to the release.

The man allegedly refused to come out of the home, and officials say when they entered through the garage area he appeared with a knife.  He allegedly raised the knife and moved toward the officers, according to a release.

One of the deputies shot the man twice with a shotgun that was equipped with “less than lethal” rounds.  He dropped the knife but continued to search for it in the garage before officials overpowered and arrested him.

The man is facing charges of aggravated assault, resisting and obstructing police and domestic violence.  He will be identified pending formal arraignment.
