GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced Friday the Gerald R. Ford International Airport will receive some big funding from the government to make the runways safer.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration, in conjunction with the Runway Incursion Mitigation Program, awarded $2,547,780 to the airport for use on rehabilitating their runways.
The Runway Incursion Management Program helps airports reduce the risk of runway incursions. A runway incursion is when a person or a vehicle enters the protected area of an airport specifically for landings and take offs.
“This investment will make traveling to and from Grand Rapids safer and more efficient,” Senator Stabenow said in a press release.
