ST. IGNACE, Mich.– The Mackinac Bridge Authority and Wings of Wonder are teaming up to make sure a bald eagle rescued in Manistee County gets the release it deserves.

“The Manistee Eagle” came into the care of Wings of Wonder (WOW) founder Rebecca Lessard in August when the eagle was spotted sitting on a fence post looking noticeably ill.  It is believed he was suffering from West Nile Virus and was admitted to the intensive care clinic at WOW for 48 hours.

Now fully rehabilitated, the Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) approached WOW to give the eagle a new name, “Mighty Mac,” and an even better release off of the Mackinac Bridge.

“To have Mighty Mac, a symbol of our nation, released from our iconic bridge will be both thrilling and inspiring,” MBA Chairman William Gnodtke said in a press release.

Depending on wind conditions and safety precautions, the release of Mighty Mac is tentatively scheduled for 2:00pm on October 4.
