Most businesses have a personal story behind them, but how WAR Chest was founded is absolutely unthinkable.

At the age of 14 while living overseas, owner Rebecca McDonald's best friend had acid poured down her throat, to silence her cries, after being wounded and raped. From that day on, McDonald has fought for women's international issues, opening safe houses, and even boutiques and a new cafe, to empower them and give them skills to get back on their feet.

WAR stands for Women at Risk, and the name for the international ministry organization humanitarian outreach in 48 different countries including the USA. They address 14 different risk issues ranging from honor killings, female circumcision, acid attacks, to rape. However the issue they're most know for is the fight against human trafficking.

All of their products in the cafe and boutique are made from around the world in safe houses in the U.S. with rescued and at risk men and women.

By also opening a cafe in each shop, they hire these men and women as baristas so they know they have a safe work environment while trying to get back on their feet.

Their grand opening at their Wyoming store is happening today. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., you can try their lunch and dinner buffet at their new cafe. There will be some special guest dropping by between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. it's Kid's Day, where brunch will be served along with a free bouncy house, cotton candy, and much more.

Their Wyoming location is at 2790 44th Street. For more information about their hours or locations, give them a call at (616) 530-1234.
