MICHIGAN — Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will get some help from her husband, former President Bill Clinton, who plans to campaign on her behalf in Michigan on Monday.

The former president plans to make stops in Flint and Saginaw throughout the day on Monday, the Clinton campaign said on Saturday.

“President Clinton will lay out the high stakes of November’s election for Michigan’s working families and talk with Michiganders about Hillary Clinton’s plans to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top,” according to a release issued by the campaign.

The campaign stops will also center around encouraging people to register to vote ahead of the upcoming Oct. 11 deadline.

Bill Clinton’s most recent appearance in the state was in September during Detroit’s Labor Day parade.

The planned visit comes as the Clinton campaign is ratcheting up efforts in Michigan as the Democratic presidential nominee maintains a five-point lead over Republican rival Donald Trump in the latest post-debate statewide Real Clear Politics polling average.

Former Maryland Gov. and former presidential candidate Martin O’Malley appeared in Kalamazoo Saturday afternoon at the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange. The stop was one of five in the state for the Clinton surrogate on Saturday, which included visits in Portage, East Lansing, West Bloomfield and a rally in Flint at  United Auto Workers hall.

Chelsea Clinton campaigned in Traverse City on Friday, one week after a similar stop in Grand Rapids.

Clinton’s GOP rival, Trump, rallied an estimated 6,000 supporters on the state’s east side in Novi on Friday evening.

The rally followedan unexpected visit earlier in the day to Grand Rapids where Trump appeared at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum and shook hands with surprised ArtPrize visitors.  Trump also spoke briefly at the Kent GOP headquarters and attended a private fundraiser at the J.W. Marriot downtown.
