PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Supreme Court has turned down the latest appeal by a man who is serving a life sentence for a fatal shooting in a college parking lot in Port Huron.

Temujin Kensu, formerly known as Fred Freeman, insists he was in the Upper Peninsula when Scott Macklem was killed in 1986.

In his latest effort, he says his rights were violated when jurors saw photos that appeared different than photos used in a police lineup. The Supreme Court on Thursday said it won’t take the case, letting an appeals court decision stand.

Justice Richard Bernstein disagreed. Justice Bridget McCormack didn’t participate because she had worked on Kensu’s case before joining the court.

Separately, Kensu’s supporters are asking Gov. Rick Snyder to order the state police to reopen the investigation.
