DECATUR TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An 18-year-old man has died from injuries he received in a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says the 18-year-old was driving a Chevrolet HHR with a 15-year-old passenger on 36th Street and 96th Avenue when they somehow lost control and crashed.  There were no other vehicles involved and it is unclear at this time what caused it.  It is currently being investigated by the Van Buren County Accident Reconstruction Team.

The Sheriff’s Department initially received a 911 call about the crash from a passerby. They reported that a single vehicle had crashed.  When Deputies arrived, they found the 2 men trapped inside the Sedan.  The two had to be extricated using special tools.

The 18-year-old driver was flown to a nearby hospital after being treated on scene by paramedic workers.  He died sometime Sunday morning from injuries he got in the crash.  The 15-year-old was also injured significantly, though he is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The names of the two are being withheld until family can be notified.
