GRAND HAVEN, Mich.--The first event of its kind is coming to West Michigan. This Saturday, the VFW and American Legion are teaming up to co-host an event called '22 for 22 Silkies Hike' to raise awareness and prevention of military member suicides.
Military veterans are encouraged to come together for the 22km hike, and carry a 22kg pack in remembrance of the 22 service members who take their own lives each day.
The event begins with breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Grand Haven American Legion Post 28. That's at 700 S. Harbor Drive in Grand Haven. Things wrap up around 3:30 p.m.
