BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Managers at Fire Keepers Casino saw the unexpected closing of Don Pablo's on Monday and said their hearts went out to the staff. Employees of the popular Mexican restaurant showed up to work that day and were told to look for new jobs. Now, the casino is stepping in to help those workers find a future at their place.

"We’re concerned about what happens in the community," said Frank Tecumseh, vice president of human resources.  "When we heard of this unfortunate event we wanted to reach out to help them."

Tecumseh said immediately after Don Pablo's closed, they put out a press release and got the word out on Facebook. They have multiple jobs available that may fit what  Don Pablo's employees are looking to do.

"We have a variety of positions available, from sous chefs to stewards to bartenders to servers," said Tecumseh during an interview at the casino. "We’re in the process of expanding our food and beverage outlet."

There's still a hiring and interview process said Tecumseh.  But casino officials said they just wanted to extend the offer and give a bit of hope to those who lost their jobs.

"I've been in that situation before," said Tecumseh. "I know its not easy. But to have an employer reach out to offer assistance, I think is remarkable. And that’s the kind of organization that we are."
