KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A month long investigation after a spike in heroin overdoses led the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) to a large narcotics bust Thursday.

Investigators received tips that several gang members from Detroit had moved to the city of Kalamazoo and attempted to set up a heroin distribution operation. Their information led them to a home in the 200 block of E North St, where after a search warrant was obtained, KVET says they found a distribution amount of heroin packaged for sale, marijuana, ammunition, a large amount of cash, and items related to narcotics distribution.

Five men were in the house, of them two were arrested: a Kalamazoo man, 25, for allegedly manufacturing and delivering heroin and a 27-year-old Detroit man on charges of delivering and manufacturing heroin, running a drug house, and being felon in possession of a firearm. A third Detroit man – a 32-year-old – also faces a charge of running a drug house but was not arrested. The other two men were let go and asked to promptly return to Detroit.

KVET says that due to being located halfway between Detroit and Chicago, Kalamazoo is often a target for narcotics traffickers, who move into the area to move large amounts of drugs.

Anyone with information about illegal drugs or firearms activity is asked to call KVET at 269-337-8880 or anonymously with Silent Observer at 269-343-2100 or at http://www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
