KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Acting on tips, the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team have arrested several people in an apparent attempt by Detroit gang members to distribute heroin in Kalamazoo.
The KVET had heard about the operation and acted on a search warrant at a home on E. North Street near Rose Street on October 13, says the Kalamazoo Public Safety Department. The team discovered not only heroin and marijuana ready for sale but ammunition and a lot of cash.
Several people were arrested, including a 25-year-old Kalamazoo man and a 27-year-old Detroit man. Another man, age 32, was not arrested but will face charges of running a drug house.
The enforcement team has been concentrating more on heroin distribution due to a spike in overdoses in Kalamazoo County, which is vulnerable to drug activity because Kalamazoo is halfway between Detroit and Chicago.
