MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) — Authorities have rescued 10 people after heaving rain caused flooding that closed some roads in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Patrick Brown of Coast Guard Station Marquette tells MLive the guard and partner agencies rescued 10 people and three dogs along the Chocolay River in Marquette County before daylight Tuesday.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says U.S. 41 over the river was closed Tuesday due to water over the roadway and later pending an inspection. Michigan Route 94 west was closed west of U.S. 41 due to a washout.

Michigan State Police say several other roads are closed along the river.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning in the area following more than 3 inches of rainfall in some areas since Monday evening.
