ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The driver of a pickup truck was taken to the hospital after he crashed into a miniature horse in dense fog conditions early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened shortly after 7:00 a.m. in the area of Algoma and Rector in Algoma Township.  Police at the scene tell us an unknown number of miniature horses had gotten loose from a nearby farm.  A 40-year-old man in a pickup truck was driving in the extremely foggy conditions, when one of the animals ended up in the road.  He was unable to avoid a collision.

The driver suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. The miniature horse did not survive.  A second vehicle was also involved in the crash, but the damage was minor and the driver did not require treatment.
