Crowd estimated at 4,500 participate in GR Marathon

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Thousands of people from across the country took part in the 13th annual Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon Sunday.

An estimated 4,500 people from as far as Canada signed up for at least one of the many different events including a 26- and 13-mile marathon.

Teammates from myTeam Triump, Wheelchair & Handcycle Athletes and "Velocity Challenged" got an early start in the marathon beginning at 7 a.m. with the rest of the participants kicking off from the starting line at 8 a.m.

Other events included the Foster Swift Marathon, Pepsi Max Marathon Relay in addition to the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Grand Rapids Kids Marathon.
