Wyoming police officer hurt when drunk driver hits cruiser

WYOMING, Mich. — A Wyoming Department of Public Safety officer was injured when his cruiser was struck by a vehicle driven by a drunk driver shortly after midnight.

At 12:50 a.m. Sunday, the cruiser was struck by a vehicle in the intersection of 28th Street and Buchanan Avenue SW. The crash occurred when a northbound vehicle driven by a 27-year-old Comstock Park man failed to yield the right of way as it was turning west onto 28th Street.

The cruiser was traveling eastbound and had a yellow flashing light.

The 29-year-old Wyoming Public Safety officer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

The driver of the at-fault vehicle was arrested at the scene for operating while intoxicated and has been lodged in the Kent County Correctional Facility.

The crash remains under investigation by Wyoming police.
