GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Every other week FOX 17 features a child in Michigan foster care still hoping to be adopted. Thanks to our viewers, almost every single boy and girl we've featured is now in the process of being adopted.

Tuesday, FOX 17 spent the afternoon with Katie, a sixth grader who is smart, kind, and showed us her love of animals at the John Ball Zoo.

"I love animals," Katie said walking through the zoo, almost mesmerized.

Katie loved the zoo's surprise as she was one zookeeper's special guest: she got to meet and pet a large lizard called a Tagu and a turtle. It's something she will remember.

“My favorite was when she brought out the little lizard, because it was soft and how it was shedding," she said.

Gentle and observant, Katie's love for animals makes it no surprise she would like to become a large animal veterinarian one day.

"Because I like animals," Katie said, "and taking care of them."

In the sixth grade, Katie says she loves learning math. She's a caring friend who likes to spend time outdoors, and she's artistic.

"I like drawing and coloring," Katie said, "because I like to make pictures."

When it comes to family, Katie's wish is just as you might expect: "A family with animals," she said.

Katie says she wants to spend time with her forever family swimming in the summer, making snowmen in the winter, and if she had a choice, she wants to live with her family on a farm.

When FOX 17 asked Katie who would be on the farm, she answered, "a mom."

If you would like to learn more about Katie and adoption, please call her adoption agency, Orchards Children's Services at: 1 (855) 694-7301.

FOX 17 would like to extend a special thank you to the John Ball Zoo for this special filming session
