ATHENS TWP., Mich. – A teen is in critical condition after a crash Monday morning.

Michigan State Police say the crash happened at Six Mile Road and N Drive South in Athens Township at about 11:00am.

Police say that three teens from the Union City and Athens area were riding in a car heading south on Six Mile Road when another car heading north turned in front of them at N Drive.  The collision sent the teens off the road and into several trees.  One teen, Bailey Mears, 17 of Union City, was critically hurt and airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.  Mears was a passenger in the vehicle.  The other two teens were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, David Byrd, 47, of Union City, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Police say neither alcohol or drugs appear to be factors in the crash.  The crash is still under investigation and anyone with information should call Michigan State Police in Marshall at 269-558-0500.
